Best man asked to leave wedding after delivering insulting speech

Sometimes a joke is a hit and sometimes it's a far, far miss.

Your wedding is one of the most special days of your life and the memory of the event is bound to be engraved in your brain forever.

As stressful as it can be for a bride and groom, it is also supposed to be a day filled with fun, laughter, and love.

No matter how well you think you know your maid of honour or best man, you might get a little anxious when it comes to the part of the evening where they are set to deliver their speeches.

Will they be mentioning some parts of your past that would give your grandparents a heart attack? Will they embarrass you in front of everyone? Or will they just be completely inappropriate?

They could also be going through the most seeing as their speech has to be funny, interesting, heartwarming, short, and sweet. 

No pressure.

And when it goes wrong, it will become infamous.

One Reddit user told the story of his not too popular attempt at a best man's speech, which was received so terribly that he was removed from the wedding.

Now, you might not be the funniest or the best storyteller, but you really have to say something exceptionally insulting that would lead to you being kicked out of your best friend's wedding.

The unknown Reddit user explained that he had written an entire speech and even went through the trouble of learning it off by heart, no cue cards or anything.

His only issue was that he wasn't too close with the bridesmaids and didn't know them too well, so he wasn't sure what to say about them.

So he did what any of us would do in that situation - he decided to wing it.

The big day arrived and as he is finishing up his speech, he can't help but think that he's nailed it. He concludes this otherwise fantastic speech with a joke aimed at the bridesmaids:

"Bridesmaids, I am a bit short of time here and I don't really know you all, so I'd just like to say that five out of six of you look stunning today... figure it out amongst yourselves."

While he thought it was hilarious and it would land well with the crowd, possibly being met with rambunctious laughter and rounds of applause, the opposite happened.

The room had turned dead silent and one of the bridesmaids then burst out in tears.

That's when he knew he had messed up. Big time.

When he went over to apologise to the crying lady he noticed that she was certainly less attractive than the others.

After all the drama, the bride came up to him and just said, "I think it's best you leave."

The groom's response? Just a simple agreeable nod.

May this be a lesson that planning, preparation, and practice do make perfect.

This is not the first time someone has put a damper on the happiest day of a couple's life... and it certainly won't be the last.

As long as it's not happening to us, we can laugh about it, right?
