Andile Mbuthu: Calls for calm in outraged Tongaat community
Updated | By Nothando Mkhize
Social Development MEC Nonhlanhla Khoza has called for calm in Hambanathi, north of Durban, where a 16-year-old boy was allegedly beaten to death.
The family of Andile 'Bobo' Mbuthu is waiting for the results of DNA tests that were conducted on a body pulled from a nearby river last week.
Khoza visited the matric pupil's family in Tongaat to offer support during this heart-wrenching time.
Angry residents torched a local tavern, believed to be where the teen was beaten.
"Our social workers are going to be here until after the funeral, to monitor and see how the family is taken care of."
Six men lined up in the Verulam Magistrate's Court on Monday on charges of kidnapping and murder.
Their case was postponed until next Tuesday for a formal bail hearing.
Charges against the seventh suspect - a minor - were withdrawn.
