Going into the year 2021, we thought 2020 had shown us flames.

We believed that the year of the pandemic, being locked inside your home for days on end, together with the uncertainty surrounding the actual COVID-19 virus, had us all at a new level of anxiety.

And many of us thought - this is the worst year ever and it can't possibly get any worse.

Enter 2021.

COVID-19 pandemic aside, this year KZN was burning.

What started as a protest soon took a turn for the worse.

From buildings being brought to the ground to warehouses being emptied of all their contents, looters and rioters took over the province and for days, even weeks after they were done, we were still living on edge and in fear.

During that time, Stacey and J Sbu tried their very best to work through these fears and feelings, literally dodging obstacles, like roadblocks, that have been put before them and upon arriving at work every day, wondering if the East Coast Radio could be the next target.

"Will we make it home safe tonight?"

"Will the people we care about most be safe in their homes? Do they have enough necessities?"

To say it was a very uncertain and scary time would be an understatement.

At one point things did get too much for Stacey and she had to take a mental health day:

But the team rallied and knew they had an important job to do:

1. Try to distract KZN from what was happening outside and provide an escape for those who were having a tough time dealing with all the news and drama.

2. Provide as much accurate news as they possibly could and make sure you were informed at all times.

3. Uplift your spirits.

And that's exactly what they did:
