Couple's Valentine’s Day stroll turns nightmarish after giraffe attack

A leisurely stroll through Greenstone Wildlife Estate turned into a nightmare for Barberton Hi-Tech's Sakkie Dednam and his wife, Yvonne.
The couple were viciously attacked by a young giraffe on 14 February before being rushed to hospital with serious injuries. According to Frank Swanepoel of Hi-Tech, the couple take a walk through the estate every afternoon.

Sakkie suffered several broken ribs but managed to find cover under a bush during the attack, but Yvonne was not as lucky. She sustained head injuries and a concussion.
According to Lowvelder, they are both currently recovering in a private hospital and reports note that they are in a stable condition
Vice Chairperson of the board of Greenstone Wildlife Estate, Gerhard Bessenger, confirmed the incident and stated that it was very unfortunate. Bessenger thanked the emergency services for their swift response.
He further urged residents to be cautious around giraffes.
