On Thursday night, South Africans all tuned in as the president of the country addressed issues we are facing, solutions to some of these, and suggestions as to how we can better the nation. 

Cyril Ramaphosa made the SONA address from Cape Town City Hall with other members of parliament in attendance.

The rest of us were either watching live on television or tuned in to the radio.

Some of the promising things that came from the address

  • President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced the extension of South Africa’s R350 social relief of distress grant for another year.

The president said that more than 10-million people had benefitted from the grant since it was introduced, with several South Africans using the grants not only for basic purchases but to start businesses.

  • Leadership shake-up on the cards for several security agencies.
  • Government will expand the employment tax incentive – and give more young people a chance at jobs.

We can only hope for the best for our country. 

Considering everything we have gone through in the past two years, we are steadily making our way back to stability.
