Mid-year reflection: The 3 W's to ask yourself this June

It's already the middle of 2025, and while some of us try to let that sink in, the rest of us are busy ensuring we stay on track for this year's goals.

It's June, we've officially reached the halfway point of 2025. While it might not be down to the T, it is the month that offers us perspective when thinking about our goals for 2025.

It is a time for reflection. A key moment in the year that allows us to look at what we have accomplished thus far and how to steer through the rest of the year in an upward direction.

This is easier said than done, though. Reflection can bring up feelings and emotions, mainly because life happens. When we set out our goals at the beginning of the year, we don't know what obstacles might present themselves along the way.

When reflecting, it's best to avoid questions that bring up feelings of disappointment.

Susanna Newsonen from Psychology Today said it best: "The only thing that is certain in our day-to-day lives is uncertainty. We can plan as much as we want but still face unexpected developments. And that's OK. It means that you've probably ended up doing a lot more than you initially planned to, even though it may not be the things you originally planned to."

Here are three questions to ask yourself as you tackle your mid-year reflection.

1. What are your wins so far? Think about your achievements from the beginning of the year till the present. Note down anything and everything that made you feel good.

2. What stretched you, but helped you grow? It's not easy sitting with the challenges that we have been through, but acknowledging them along your journey enables you to understand where you were and how you've grown since then. It is also a good way of letting go of the anger or disappointment associated with those challenges. You have something that not everyone has: an opportunity to do better and do things differently.

3. What's next? Think about how your goals at the beginning of the year were structured. If you need to, pivot. If you're still confident in what you want to achieve, adapt and identify what you need to do to reach them in the year's second half.
