It's incredible how Checkers Sixty60 has become a whole vibe in South Africa...

Since its arrival, Checkers Sixty60 has become more than a household name. From the Checkers Sixty60 drivers to kids' themed birthday parties, the turquoise army has inspired South Africans to think outside the box or should we say bag.

This time, the focal point was the Checkers Sixty60 shopping bags, which have previously made headlines. Remember the mother who went viral for repurposing the bags into wrapping paper for her kids' schoolbooks?

What about the woman who used the bags as her gift wrap over the festive season?

It's safe to say these recyclable bags have become more than just a carrier bag. In the Western Cape Winelands, the shopping bags became the material of choice for a modelling show.

"Hesmari van Deventer (42), a mom from Montagu, transformed discarded Sixty60 and Checkers plastic shopping bags into dazzling, award-winning outfits – and a matching bouquet – in just four days," according to Shoprite Holdings.

Her son and his girlfriend inspired her to create a ballgown-style dress and matching jacket.

Beate van Wyk (17) wanted to participate in their school's Meneer en Mejuffrou Boland modelling competition.

Van Deventer told Shoprite, "Beate wanted to do something with Sixty60 bags, and initially she wanted overalls, but I said ‘no, you need to get points for creativity! So, let’s go big!’ Ultimately, it was a wonderful challenge because I love being creative and enjoy trying new things."

The dazzling couple performed their creative piece, which even showed them entering the stage on a scooter. They walked the runway in style and threw candy from their shopping bags to the crowds.

Their performance scored them a win as they were named Meneer en Mejuffrou Kreatief (Mr and Miss Creative) in the themed event category “From Trash”.
