Seeing love fill our city brightens our days. Love has a way of helping us believe in a better tomorrow and restoring our faith in unlimited and bountiful ways.

A love story that recently caught our attention online captured the hearts of many people. It showed an elaborate spectacle coordinated for one lucky lady, Trimona Chetty.

The man behind it was the passionate and confident Josheldon Govender. Govender and Chetty are from Chatsworth. Govender is a junior business analyst at Mr Price Group, and Chetty is a safety officer at an engineering company.

From a young age, Govender always knew that if he were to propose, it would be with a flash mob. But as the years passed, flash mobs faded as a trend, making him think differently. Then, at the beginning of this year, he decided he was ready to take on a new chapter with his girlfriend. He settled on a flash mob proposal, and after speaking to Chetty's parents and his mother, the wheels began turning.

The flashmob proposal occurred at the Legacy Yard in Umhlanga Arch, Durban.

Govender describes himself as an introvert, which is surprising considering he is a choreographer, dancer and dance teacher. He describes Chetty as the extrovert in the relationship.

He said, " She is, you know, very loving, caring, and caring about people. I'm more logical, constantly analysing, planning, and doing things. What brought us together? It was our love for dance. So we met 12 years ago, but we have been friends for 10 years, and we've only been dating for about two years.

The two met through dance, as Govender was scheduled to perform for Chetty's family. She ended up being involved, and then she joined their dance academy, Resurrected Dance Academy. Govender admitted that there was always something between him and Chetty, but it took him some time to build the courage to ask her out.

" If it doesn't fail, if it fails, it happens. But I know it's worth a try because I could see a lot in her that I liked and could see a future with. So, I pursued her and that was two years ago", said Govender.

The planning and execution of the flash mob proposal was not easy. It took a lot of hiding and keeping things under wraps, but Govender believes it all worked out because of his faith in a higher power.

Dancers from different dance schools joined the surprise, and he had help from friends and family. The proposal was meant to be in March 2025, but Chetty's grandmother fell ill and passed away. So, it was moved to 10 May 2025, which also happened to fall on their second anniversary.

Govender's love for Chetty is unconquerable. He explained why he put so much effort into the proposal: "I wanted everyone to see that she was worth all of that planning and that time and that effort. And sometimes I feel she is not as appreciated as she should be. People take her for granted. And I wanted to show everyone that she deserves this huge proposal and even more. I wanna do the best for her. Show her that I will stop at nothing to be as creative as possible for her because she deserves it."

Govender believes that dance brought them together. Their journey at their dance academy has allowed them to help and grow the youth in the community. They believe it is ordained. Dance helped them become friends and also led them to where they are today in their love story.

" Dance is probably one of the main reasons I believe she is the one," he said.

There you have it—music and dance can be great igniters of romance, and this love story is proof of that. We wish Josheldon and Trimona all the best on their journey together.
