How long are the winter school holidays this year?
Updated | By Udesha Moodley-Judhoo
Exams are drawing to an end, and then schools will close. Are you ready for the holidays?

The kids are nearing the end of their examinations and assessments, and the holiday mood is brewing.
The official closing date for the winter school holidays is Friday, 27 June. Kids will return to school on Tuesday, 22 July, which leaves them with a three-week winter break.
Many learners stay home after their exams, which extends their three-week holiday at least by another week. However, for the matriculants, it's crunch time. Many schools offer extra classes for learners preparing for their third term trial examinations.

For those parents who have yet to make plans, these suggestions might help with your planning.
1. KwaZulu-Natal Museum Winter Holiday Programme 2025
The KZN museum winter holiday programme, aimed at children between the ages of five and 13, will run from 30 June to 4 July.
"The programme is packed with exciting daily crafts, guided gallery tours, and storytelling adventures designed to inspire young minds," according to the Web Tickets website.
The price is the best part, over and above the great activities. The cost is R35 per child, per day. You can check out the full breakdown of the daily activities on the Web Tickets website and book early.
2. Sugar Bay's Winter Camp

Sugar Bay invites your child to dream big and dive deeper into the experience that sparks imagination, courage, connection, and joy.
"Thanks to our tropical KwaZulu-Natal climate, winter here feels like an endless summer. It’s not too hot or cold—just perfect for surfing, lilo floating, kayaking, and even beach bonfires under the stars," states the Sugar Bay website.

3. Go freestyle and plan things yourself
This is an excellent option for parents who want to do a variety of things during the winter school break but are on a budget.
You can mix things up by visiting malls, which sometimes have cool things happening in their activation areas for kids. Book sessions at places such as Mini Town, the movies, Bounce Cornubia, and be.Up at Gateway, ice skating at Galleria, museum visits, and there are always play dates.
Whatever you decide to do this winter break, make it fun and make sure to stay safe.
