Gogo, Ma, Mama, and Aunty are the names that children use to refer to the women who help care for them daily in South Africa.

While not all domestic helpers are always acknowledged or appreciated for the love, care and trust they put into their day-to-day work, we cannot paint everyone with the same brush. Many families treat their domestic helpers with the love and care they deserve.

These women who dedicate their lives to caring for families not related to them by blood, essentially spend more time with the families they work for than their own families. Just like our communities' first responders, they stand tall as caregivers.

Carol Ofori was inspired to share a special dose of gratitude for her nanny/helper after watching the video.

A South African mom and teacher shared her appreciation for Joyce, her domestic helper, who recently celebrated her birthday. Sune Koen shared how her kids collectively spoiled "Joycie" with gifts on her birthday.

Joyce was emotionally overcome and hugged the kids to express her gratitude. Koen wrote, "It's Joycie's birthday today! I lay sick in bed, and everyone was home early. When she wanted to bathe the children tonight, I sent her to the kitchen, and we tried to make her day a little special!"

Truthfully, the kids were more excited about the gifts and helped Joyce unwrap them.

Carol said, " Because when mom's not around, when dad's not around, they are the ones that are there for their kids—giving them love and support, keeping them clean, giving them good food, and just being the mommy who is not there in the moment. And sometimes even when you're there, they are there to make life so special.

It's important to celebrate the women who help so many of us in our homes. Without them, we are unable to be as fabulous and great as we are."

Koen's video has over 241,000 views and has attracted much positivity from online users.
