Shallcross community fearful amid 'increasing crime'
Updated | By Bernadette Wolhuter
The community of Shallcross, south of Durban says incidents of crime in the area are increasing exponentially.
Residents have been left outraged by the death of a 9-year-old girl who was shot during a hijacking this morning.
Sardia Sukhraj was sitting in the car with her father, a pastor, while her mother was leaving her baby brother with her grandparents at their home on Himalaya Drive.
Sardia and her father were accosted by three armed men who pulled her father out of the vehicle and tried to drive off with Sardia.

A shootout ensued and the child was hit in the stomach and died at hospital.
The hijackers then crashed into a truck as they sped off.
The truck driver says the hijackers were driving with one of the doors still flung open, damaging his truck.
"The vehicle drove past me then made a U-turn to continue straight ahead. The hijackers then parked behind the truck. As I got out of the vehicle, whilst walking towards them to confront them about the damage they caused to my truck, they started driving towards me. As I began to run away, they then drove into me, hitting me in the leg," the truck driver said.
