Sadtu threatens action over teacher shortages at KZN schools
Updated | By Xolani Khumalo
The South African Democratic Teachers Union (Sadtu) is threatening further action if nothing is done about the teacher shortages at KwaZulu-Natal schools.
The union says around 200 schools are functioning with up to four teachers.
It says the provincial Education Department has failed to fill about 2 000 substitute teacher posts to help alleviate the pressure.

Last week, Sadtu marched to premier Sihle Zikalala's office to hand over a memorandum.
They gave him until Tuesday to respond.
The unions' provincial secretary Nomarashiya Caluza says pupils' right to education is being compromised.

"We are waiting for the premier to hear from him how best is he going to and his government going to attend to these issues because it is unfair that learners have been without teachers.
"It is against the Constitution of the country. It is against the UNESCO declaration. Learners at all times must have teachers."
