SADTU: Basic Education must reschedule Grade 12 exams
Updated | By Nomfundo Ngcobo
The South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU) wants the exam arrangements made for Grade 10 and 11 pupils to be extended to matrics.
This week, the Basic Education Department announced a decision to scrap end-of-year exams for these two grades due to the time lost during the lockdown.
The department says they will be replaced with controlled tests.
SADTU says Grade 12s continuing with the finals is setting them up for failure.
The union's Nomarashiya Caluza says they too missed valuable school time.

"The situation is the same; there is no difference. Whilst we acknowledge and welcome this decision for Grade 10 and 11, we strongly believe that it must also apply all the Grades.
"They must consider rescheduling or moving the exams for Grade 12 so that at least there is enough time to cover the curriculum for Grade 12."
