No formal exams for Grades 1 to 11

The National Professional Teachers Organisation of South Africa (Naptosa) has confirmed that Grades 1 through to 11 will not be writing any formal exams in 2020.

Naptosa president Basil Manuel said on Friday that the exams will be replaced by school-based assessments and controlled tests.

“None of the children from Grade 1 to Grade 11 are writing formal examinations.
"They are doing controlled tests. Some of them, like in the foundation phase, are purely just FDAs, school-based assessments. So nobody is writing a formal based exam.”

Schools across the country are preparing to return to full capacity on Monday when the country eases to Level 1 of the lockdown.
Under lockdown Level 1, all Grades and all teachers will be back at school.
Teachers who have been at home as a result of comorbidities and those over 60 years are also expected to return on Monday.
