RAF: 24,000 youth killed on SA roads over 5 years
Updated | By Tsakane Mhlongo
The Road Accident Fund says 24,098 young people were killed on South Africa's roads between 2019 and 2023.

The organisation says road accidents are the leading cause of death for those between the ages of 15 and 34.
RAF says they are often not the ones behind the wheel but rather pedestrians and passengers.
The organisation's McIntosh Polela says this is deeply concerning.

He says that young people account for just over 43% of the personal claims submitted to them.
That's over 70,000 claims in five years.
" Instead of looking forward to a long and fulfilling life, we are losing them on the roads in alarming numbers. This has to change, and our advice is that it starts with the self. They need to make sure that they do better," says Polela.
