Worker killed in Durban structural collapse
Updated | By Andile Tsotetsi
A construction worker has been killed in a structural collapse at a shopping centre in Springfield Park in Durban's Umgeni area.
At this stage, it's understood that a construction team was working on scaffolding on Tuesday morning when it gave way.
Emergency workers say five of them fell about six meters to the ground.
ALS Paramedics Garrith Jamieson says the man, believed to be in his forties, was declared dead at the scene.

"Paramedics assessed a total of five males between the ages of twenty-five and forty years. One man had unfortunately sustained major injuries, and there was nothing paramedics could do for him, and he was declared deceased on the scene.
"The remaining four patients had sustained injuries ranging from moderate to critical, and once stabilised on scene by Advanced Life Support Paramedics, they were transported to the Ahmed Al-Kadi Private Hospital for the specialist care that they required.
"At this stage, the events leading up to the incident are unknown. However, SAPS were in attendance and will be investigating further."
