Updated | By Sandile Bhengu
The National Union of Mineworkers says it believes Eskom should be made the responsibility of the Department of Energy and not Public Enterprises.

The trade union has been reacting to plans announced on Tuesday, to restructure the utility's board, saying it's pleased with the move.
NUM spokesperson Livhuwani Mammburu says they will also call on President Cyril Ramaphosa to consider replacing Pravin Gordhan as Minister of Public Enterprises.

He believes Gordhan has failed the country by not ending load shedding.
"We are alive to the reality that the only way to get Eskom from the trouble it is in now is to appoint competent men and women on its board. We further call for the restructuring of the Eskom executive.
"We need engineers who understand the science of generation transmission and distribution of energy in South Africa or at Eskom."
