Newcastle farm murder case: Suspect ditches bail
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
The man suspected of killing a Normandien couple has abandoned his bid for bail.

Siyabonga Macu was arrested in Osizweni just over a week ago.
Glen and Vida Rafferty were killed on their farm last month after returning home from a day out visiting friends.
The 29-year-old Macu appeared on Monday in the Newcastle Magistrate's Court and was expected to apply for bail.
The couple's daughter-in-law Tamsyn Rafferty says the family is happy with the outcome.

"It's important that somebody like that is not on the street and isn't able to commit any other crime within the community. So we are grateful, we are happy and it's a good first step in terms of closing this case."
The matter has been adjourned to late October.
