In the first incident, police say they were called out by members of the community to a local sports ground and told bodies were lying there.
They found two bodies with several gunshot wounds.
A few metres away, two other men were found dead.
The victims were aged between 17 and 40. Police say their initial investigation shows the four were suspected stock thieves.
Hours later, six people in an SUV were attacked by gunmen.
Police say the victims were ordered to get out of the vehicle and then shot execution-style.
Two women and three men were killed. Another woman survived the shooting and is in hospital.
Police Minister, Bheki Cele will be visiting the area today.
