Acting Premier Nomagugu Simelane visited the families on Monday and promised assistance to the grieving families for funeral preparations.
The truck driver has since appeared in court, and is expected to apply for bail on Monday.
Simelane says several government entities will pitch in to assist the affected families.
"The intention there is that families must not move from pillar to post when they need support and families must be able to understand right from the beginning who is going to assist them and what is the nature of assistance that they are going to get.
"So we then present to them and if there are any forms to be filled, then they will have to fill those forms and discuss the nature of support that government is bringing."
