Pongola crash: Truck driver appears in court

The truck driver alleged to be behind a deadly N2 crash in Pongola, in northern KZN, has indicated intentions to apply for bail.
Twenty people, 18 of whom were schoolchildren aged between 5 and 12, were killed in a head-on collision between his truck and bakkie on Friday.
Sibusiso Siyaya, 28, appeared briefly in the Pongola Magistrates Court on Monday.
It's alleged he fled the scene after the incident but handed himself over to police on Saturday.

The NPA's Natasha Kara says he faces 21 counts of culpable homicide.
"He was remanded into custody till 26 September for a bail application.""
Video footage of the incident has since emerged on social media showing the truck moving at a high speed and overtaking on a double barrier line into oncoming traffic before smashing into the bakkie.

A delegation of local government officials are also in the area today visiting the families of the deceased and the schools of the children.
