The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal is set to announce its decision on the fate of Gumede after a two-day Provincial Executive Committee meeting in Durban.

It was not too long after talks wrapped up that the rumour mill began churning out messages on social media last night that the ANC has decided to fire her.

Newswatch asked the party's provincial spokesperson whether these claims were true.

Ricardo Mthembu said he could not confirm nor deny the reports, adding that all would be revealed at the media briefing today.

Gumede, who was placed on special leave from the municipality, was arrested earlier this year in connection with what the Hawks believe was a dodgy multi-million Rand waste removal tender, dating back to 2016.

She was released on R50,000 bail.

Meanwhile,Gumede's supporters held a night vigil for her on the eve of her last court appearance last week and gathered outside the Durban Magistrate's Court where she later addressed them after proceedings wrapped up.

They said they will continue to call for her return to City Hall.

The group's Mzomuhle Dube said the State does not have anything on Gumede.

The case has been postponed to January to allow for further investigations.
