The man has been caught after 17 years on the run.

Police say the 36-year-old man had been on their most wanted list.

They say intelligence officers with the Durban Central Field Unit tracked him down to his hiding place in KwaMashu, north of Durban yesterday.

SAPS spokesperson Thulani Zwane says cases were reported from across the Greater Durban area, as well as the north and south coasts.

"He has been linked to 15 cases so far. The matter is still under investigation and the suspect could be linked to other housebreaking incidents."

"Using available technology, the highly skilled police officers  were able to trace and arrest him," said Zwane.

Police say cases the suspect has been linked to date back to 2002.
