Celimpilo Sibiya had been missing for six days before her family opened a case.

A relative, who led police to where the child's remains were found, was taken into custody.

He made a brief appearance in the Ladysmith Magistrate's Court yesterday.

KwaZulu-Natal NPA spokesperson, Natasha Kara said the man faces charges of kidnapping and murder.

"The matter has been remanded to December. At this stage, the accused has not made any indication for a bail application," said Kara.

Police say they became suspicious when a missing person's case was opened so late.

Little Celimpilo's dismembered body was found in two pit toilets close to her home.
