Bonginkosi Khanyile says legal process was devastating
Updated | By Bernadette Wolhuter
With the end of his court case in sight, local Fees Must Fall leader, Bonginkosi Khanyile says he's eager to put this chapter of his life behind him. Khanyile was arrested during a protest at DUT in 2016.
He made headlines when he took his failed bail bid to the Constitutional Court and was eventually released on R250.
His trial got underway in the Durban Regional Court this week but yesterday, his newly appointed advocate indicated that in a bid to speed up proceedings and as per an agreement with the State, Khanyile would be pleading guilty to four of the 13 counts he's facing.
He's due back in the dock next month. Khanyile says the court process has taken its toll on him.

"It has been very devastating. You can study for free, an honours degree but we still remain an unemployed youth. Some of us come from families where you are the only one who went to university.
"By virtue of studying, you are suppose to take care of your family. If you are unemployed, you are subjected to court and you are at the risk of getting a criminal record. It has been chaotic," Khanyile said.
