WATCH: Residents share video of firewater

What might seem to be magical trickery can actually be explained quite simply.
Imagine the terrifying moment you start washing your hands or face in the sink.

You never really stop to think about what exactly can be found in our tap water.
Sure, in some provinces, towns, or cities, you know not to drink the tap water, because it might contain a few toxic chemicals.

But have you ever considered the possibility that the water could catch fire?
Neither did we.
The residents in Panjin, in the Liaoning province, China, have reported a flammable substance coming through their taps.

They thought something might be wrong when they noticed an oily residue on their hands and soon figured out that that they could light the tap water on fire.
Since then they have shared videos online and local officials have launched an investigation.

The cause of the firewater has been determined, with officials saying it is all down to a natural gas leaking into the water pipe network.
The underground water supply was experiencing some errors which led to the contamination of the groundwater.

Luckily the people of Panjin will soon be blessed with some delicious, freshwater again!
