Salt Bae, otherwise known as Turkish chef Nusret Gökçe, made a name for himself after becoming a meme for the way he throws salt on his food once prepared.

The gimmick has made him incredibly popular around the world and has helped him cement his position as one of the greatest chefs in the world today. But, if you want to get a first-hand experience of the chef’s food in one of his 18 restaurants around the world, it’s going to cost you!

To get a glimpse of Salt Bae, you’re going to have to trek to his prestigious Nusr-Et restaurant in Dallas, Texas. But, if you want to get a picture of the man bouncing flakes of salt off his arm and onto your food, it’s not going to be cheap.

A visitor recently shared their bill on social media – and it’s sparked up a massive debate. Coming in at a grand total of approximately R92,000.

The bill reveals that a Sprite costs approximately R145, while a side of chips comes in at a hefty R223. The diners enjoyed a Tomahawk steak that cost an incredible R4,000, while one diner treated themselves to a Golden Tomahawk (a “24 karat gold coated highly marbled wagyu tomahawk”) for a staggering R14,500!

But, if you want the Salt Bae performance, it’s going to cost just under R600 per person. Yes – R600 to have the chef salt your already expensive steak for you!

Taking to social media, one user stated the obvious, saying: "This dinner party has money. People who complain or post receipts don't order $1,500 Le Brut or $1k tomahawk steak." Another person replied: "Nobody said they couldn't afford it. Doesn't make it any less ridiculous."

A third commented: "You think I'll pay 6k and I won't make him feed me the entire time? It's right there, salt bae passion. Alaye better feed me passionately."

One user, however, couldn’t get over the R1,200 ‘spaghetti’ which is actually “thinly sliced striploin”, according to the restaurant’s menu. “Why is ‘spaghetti’ in speech marks? Was it shredded cash with marinara? That would at least explain the price,” the user joked.
