Dog accidentally shoots his owner by stepping on gun

And you would be surprised to know that this is apparently quite a common occurrence.
When you think about dangerous dogs, you might think about them biting and scratching.

You wouldn't really start to think about a dog holding a gun (Or maybe if you have a vivid imagination you might).
Well, one man in Plano, Texas was definitely caught off-guard when he lifted his dog up only to end up with a bullet in his leg.

The man explained to the Plano Police that the incident took place when he picked up his dog and that he had been keeping his pistol tucked in his waistband.
The dog's paw got stuck in the trigger which set the gun off, sending the bullet into his thigh.

Fortunately, the bullet did not hit any major arteries and the man was even able to take himself to the hospital where he has been treated for his wounds.

As mentioned, this isn't the first time an accident like this has happened in the US.
Just last year, a man in Mississippi suffered a gunshot wound when his dog jumped onto his shotgun, which was lying on the floor, depressed the safety switch, and was able to pull the trigger.
The man had to have his leg amputated.

Since 2004 up until 2015, there have been ten of these cases where a dog had accidentally "shot" a person.
The number could be more, but these are the only cases that have been reported, which is most likely because the person sought medical attention.

There have not been any fatalities reported where the cause has been stated as an accidental dog shooting, but there have been many terrible injuries.
Either way, the amount is quite shocking, so if you are a gun owner, please make sure you don't leave your weapon within reach of curious hands... or paws.
