Listen: "Save South Africa - stop breeding"

A South African has strong views to share about the current state of our country. He feels that the only way to curb this issue is by enforcing a limit on having children.

Listen as a KZN man shares his view on overpopulation in South Africa:

Worldometers reports that there are over 7.6-billion people out there in the world, while SA Government has reported that 56.52-million of those people reside in South Africa. These are scary statistics when you really think about it.

It got me thinking about the state of our world after receiving a voice note from an irate listener who is fed up by the state of our country and the planet.

In his voice note, he talks about how fed up he is seeing children being left on doorsteps because people can't take care of them, which is strange because just yesterday I came across a story from Newswatch about a Glenwood woman who found a child on her doorstep.

The UN reports that the world population is expected to reach 9.6-billion by the year 2050, so if we don't start making a change in how we live in the world, experts predict that we may eventually see a consumer collapse taking place. A statistic was published on World Clocks that read: "At current trends, the planet cannot sustain twice as many people and a 26 times larger economy."

Currently, overpopulation is one of the biggest issues that the world faces, apart from global warming, pollution, extinction, and even mass consumption of natural resources.

My point is that if we don't start doing anything now to help curb the effects of overpopulation, we are going to run into some serious problems down the line.

Could a limit on breeding help? Well, I must admit that I agree with the listener who proposed this. Just like a driver’s license, I think people should also have to pass a few tests before they’re allowed to have kids.

The reality is that some people just aren’t smart enough as humans to know when enough is enough. Just last week, I met a lady who had eight children. There were three different fathers, all who weren’t even present in their lives.

It just becomes a nightmare and a possible limit imposed will help alleviate overpopulation issues?

What do you think? Would you be for or against a limit on having children if it was imposed in South Africa? Share your comments with me.
