I don't have kids of my own, but when I was a child, I often remember how memorable it was to play games with my dad in the garden. Those were the good old days.

Playing games such as soccer, catch or hide and seek was great fun. Most games with kids aren't meant to be rough, after all, it is about having fun, right? However, what happens when it comes to playing rough with your kids? Is that ever acceptable?

Daily Mail recently reported about a dad caught on video slide-tackling his four-year-old son when they were playing football, and it has caused some cause for alarm amongst some on social media, who said that the dad was too rough with his little son. Others have asked what the big deal is?

Despite being tackled by his burly father, the small child and the dad were heard laughing. Thankfully, the child wasn't injured - that would have been a different story.

Some have called this dad out for being too rough with his son, and even called him a 'bully'. It was reported that the dad responded by saying that he played roughly because 'it toughens them up".

There are many schools of belief when it comes to roughhousing, or playing roughly, as some say. The Art of Manliness speaks about some of the benefits that come with rough play, which includes boosting resilience, making them smarter, building social intelligence, and even creating a strong father-son bond.

But is playing rough with your kids the way to go to help them 'toughen' up? Personally, I don't think so. My dad and I had loads of fun during my childhood, which did not involve rough play, and I turned out okay.
