Dad teaches son a valuable lesson about stealing
Updated | By Jane Linley-Thomas
When this dad saw his son innocently taking something without paying for it, he used it as an opportunity to teach him a valuable life lesson.
On Monday, I spoke about a story close to my heart. It was about how my eldest son told a lie to protect his little brother, which left me speechless. It's true what they say, parenting doesn't come with a 'how-to' handbook. Sometimes it's just a 'learn by doing' or 'learn as you go along'.

A story popped up on my timeline which made the headlines last year about a dad who caught his son pinching a chocolate from a store without paying for it. Instead of reprimanding his son and losing his cool, this dad took the intelligent approach by teaching him a lesson about stealing and captured the lesson he taught him on video.
In the video, you can see him talking to his son about what he had done and explained to him that taking it without paying for it is wrong. He made his son take the chocolate back to the store and even made him apologise.

I'm not sure how I feel about how this dad dealt with this. The fact of him filming it is where I felt uncomfortable. Sure, the kid learned a lesson, but him being vulnerable, tearing up, and being filmed doesn't sit right with me.
I can remember when my sister stole a handbag full of her friend's food. My parents drove her back to her friend's house to return them. Let's just say that she was mortified to say the least. Lesson learned for sure!
Parents - how have you dealt with a child that has taken something which doesn't belong to them?
