It's that time of year when the march madness strikes and you have a snaccident.

Have you ever looked at your fridge and wondered, "I have nothing to eat"? Don't be alarmed as the rat snack has you covered.

The latest viral food trend is a perverse mix of whatever ingredients you can get your grubby little paws on when your brain and body shouts, “Hungry now!".

Watch this TikTok to get the inside scoop on rat snacks:

@abbeyskitchen When your InstaCart shopper throws in an unexpected pack of processed cheese, you turn it into a budget friendly “rat snack” with whatever else you have in the fridge. 🧀 😮😮😮😮😮😮 #ratsnack #unhinged #snackideas #budgetfriendly #budgetmeals #budgetsnack #frugal #applepie #cheesetoast ♬ Beat Automotivo Tan Tan Tan Viral - WZ Beat

A classic rat snack isn't as defined as one would imagine - you know a rat snack when you see one.

A very prominent voice in the rat-snack community, dietician Abbey Sharp (@abbeyskitchen), shared that a rat snack is a food combo that will be satisfying to some and induce vomiting in others. 'Totally deadly," says one user.

Perhaps this concept isn't hitting home for you, however, one thing is for certain, you too have indulged in a rat snack.

Whether it be plain bread dipped in tea, a slice of salami and mayo, a watermelon salad or pickles on toast, you have dived into the vermin culinary culture.

Here are more rat snacks shared by The Cut:

  • Melted chocolate chips and peanut butter mixed with a crunched-up handful of whatever cereal I have had on hand
  • An entire can of black olives with a handful of pretzel sticks
  • Sad nachos, composed of shredded cheese, hot sauce, and the crumbles at the bottom of a bag of tortilla chips. Microwaved for 15ish seconds. A rat snack demands immediacy.
  • Saltines dipped in McDonald’s Sweet ‘N Sour sauce
  • A spoonful of feta cheese and capers
  • Alternating pinches of sprinkles and cashews

She decided to dive in and give it a taste. See her reaction below:

Having a dairy-based side for the wings is quite normal, however, people generally opt for mayo, ranch or a dressing of sorts.

When we surfed the internet trying to find out more about this concoction, we found that there are also wings that are marinated with yogurt. Just as we thought it couldn't get any stranger...
