#TrendReport: Twitter supersizes tweets to #280characters

If you struggle to condense your thoughts into Twitter’s 140 character limit - and you’re not the only one - you’ll be happy to hear that they’re making some changes.

The social media platform recently announced that they’ll be upping their character count from 140 to 280, and feedback online was decidedly mixed.

The original limit is somewhat arbitrary, chosen so that tweets could fit into SMS messages when the service crossed over between texts and online, but its brevity has been part of its appeal for over 10 years.
As Chris Reid, Trend Researcher at the International Trend Institute, explained in his recent conversation with Jane, the reaction to the change says a lot about our relationship with tech - and what happens when brands make changes without really listening to their customers first.
