Recognising their significance, the government has established legislative frameworks to enlist their active participation, fostering holistic progress in these communities.

According to the South African Government, President Ramaphosa announced the title of King of the AmaZulu Kingship in March last year upon Misuzulu Sinqobile Zulu.

This move added to the count of officially recognising kings in SA, bringing the total to eight.

Notably, this decision marked a significant step in acknowledging traditional leadership. In a parliamentary Q&A session, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, the former Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, disclosed the salaries allocated to each of these kings over the past five years.

These salaries were determined based on the recommendations of the Independent Commission for Remuneration of Public Office Bearers.

This provided insight into the financial aspects of these positions within South Africa's cultural and governmental framework.
