Forty-year-old matriculates with top award from department of education
Manuel Naidoo from Phoenix dropped out of Rydal Park Secondary School in Grade 11. Little did he know that 25 years later he would become an inspiration for many individuals across the province.
Scoring 100% in Afrikaans in The Basic Adult Education exams, Naidoo was awarded a certificate and laptop at an event hosted by the provincial Department of Education at the Durban ICC, where the top matriculants in the province were honoured last week.
He dropped out in Grade 11 and regrets not completing his schooling. Having found himself in trouble during his school years, he says he wasted many of his years instead of focusing on his studies. He worked in a printing company for seven years as an operator and thereafter many casual jobs.

In order to prepare for the exams, he attended three-hour classes for English, Afrikaans, Maths, Geography, Religion Studies, and Business Studies from Monday to Thursday at Esselen Heights Primary School.
It all paid off in the end!
