Cellphone etiquette tips that everyone should practice

We need to be more mindful when using our cellphones around others.

Have you ever been in a public space and wanted to teach a stranger about cellphone etiquette?

Some people must be reminded about how they behave in public, especially when using a phone. Besides being kind and thoughtful in your greeting, there's the 'how to be considerate of others' while using your cellphone in public.

These days, the most common thing we notice about people and their cellphones is how they use them to block communication, which is ironic considering that's their primary purpose.

For example, when you see a family dining out, you rarely see anyone talking to each other anymore; instead, they are glued to their phones.

1. Be mindful when using your cellphone in public. There are times when you can use your cellphone to stay informed and occupy your time, but make sure to balance it out. When you're with friends and family, put your phone away and enjoy a digital-free time together.

People tend to forget their manners when they speak on the phone in public.

2. Maintaining a low volume when answering your phone in public; no one wants to hear your conversation.

3. In the workplace: Don't constantly check your phone for texts or emails; concentrate on the meeting or conversation.

4. Put your phone on silent or vibrate when you are entering a meeting, cinema, theatre, workshop.

5. Avoid making or taking personal calls in public. If you know that a call will get intense or emotional, wait till you are in a private space before taking or making the call.

Creating a cellphone-free zone in your home and workplace is vital for healthy communication.

Technology is meant to assist us in our lives; it should not be something we revolve around.
