When it comes to grandparents, we have got to say that we have been blessed with some of the coolest oldies in town. But then, SABC 2 came along and introduced their new reality series called, 'The Coolest OG's'...

The show was first aired at the beginning of June, and hosts 12 senior citizens from different walks of life. The concept is challenging these oldies (not coldies) to step out of their comfort zones and prove that they are the Coolest OG (which if you don't already know means "Old Gangster").

They are all judged by 20 something youngsters who challenge them to do some whack things (but totally cool). Check out the video trailer for the show, it will give you an idea as to what the show actually entails.

On that note, we caught up with one of the contestants, Rani Govender. She is a former Durbanite and still has lots of family in Durban. She has been living in Johannesburg for the last 20 years and decided to challenge herself by stepping out of the box and participating on the show.

The show set up everything to be in line with the COVID-19 restrictions and even went as far to provide each contestant with an in-house studio where they could video their challenges. They also had a team to help each contestant get ready, so stylists, make-up artists, music producers, sound engineers, and cameramen.

Here is her music video (totally radical "Rani Ma" - Courtesy of Instagram):

We have to say that we are super crushing on Rani Govender as the coolest OG... We hope that you give each of the contestants some moral support, it's not an easy task to put yourself out there.

We commend you for being such an inspiring grandmother to your grandson, Seth. We know that he is super proud of you. You show us that being a woman with such a plethora of knowledge and wisdom, coming from a somewhat old school time, didn't stop you from being so progressive.
