What are your school breakout plans?
Can you believe that it's already the first school holiday break of the year? Well, with that being said, as much as school holidays can be so exciting for the kids, it can be a bit of a stressful time for parents.
Figuring out the itinerary for the kids can be tricky, because no one wants a whiney/nagging child during the holidays, always telling you that they are bored. Plus, it's only right to look out for them and make sure that they are using their time profitably...
With that being said, we asked Carol Ofori what she does with the kids during the holidays. Since her family is still in Johannesburg, she commits to family time because every kid needs to have those cousin stories to tell when they get older.
Over and above that, she says she always stays equipped with arts and crafts projects that keep the kids occupied. Plus trips to the zoo and outings like going to the movies are just as important. All in all, she commits to a mix of family time, play time, arts and crafts time, and movie time.
We have noticed several gems in Durban that are not just great places to visit for the adults but also cater for the kids. Here is number one on the list, the name of the place is Home Ground Kids and Coffee in Westville.

Another nice place to visit, if you want a bit of greenery, is the Ammazulu Sculpture Garden, which is situated in Kloof.
This is a perfect mix of created art and mother nature's art - the natural surrounding is great for the kids. And you don't have to worry about hungry tummy noises after the walk, as there is an Awesome Food Café.

This one would definitely be appealing for parents that want to tick that arts and crafty box with the kids. Protea Pottery in Umhlali, which is situated on the north coast of Durban.
Besides having a pottery shop, the facility offers different price packages for people who would like to paint their own pottery. You get a chance to paint your own mug, plate or bowl, and so much more. If you want to commit to making your own pottery, then you could also visit The Pottery in Ballito.

Then there is the Phezulu Safari Park in Hillcrest. This is ideal for the whole family and allows you to feel like you are on holiday. The views are definitely worth it and you get to see the infamous Valley of a Thousand Hills.
