We came across a post asking people to share the creative ways their parents would punish them as children. We thought that this would be a great topic to discuss considering that there is such a big difference when it comes to the way our parents disciplined us and how we discipline our kids.

Of course, there are many factors to consider when we look back, as it's a completely different time and a host of knowledge has been revealed since we were kids. We don't advocate for any type of violence or abuse, but we think that reminiscing about how we were raised can provide for some entertainment.

Some others shared their most creative punishments online and we wanted to share that with you...

"We lost the snow shovels building snow forts, so our parents made us shovel snow using pots and pans." - dzenib.

"My sister would love to write or colour on the walls when we were kids and when our parents asked us, we both would not say anything because we didn't want to get into trouble. So they would give us chillies to eat to encourage us to speak the truth..." - this one was shared by a friend of one of Carol's colleagues.

"My best friend and her brother wouldn't stop fighting, and their parents had tried everything - taking their toys, early bedtime, grounding, etc. So one day, their dad had the bright idea of putting them in the garage, sitting next to each other while holding hands and watching paint dry on a canvas. And every time they said something rude to each other, he poured a little more paint over the canvas." - shelbygirl1919.

"When my brother and I bickered, my parents made us stand side by side with our non-dominant hands free - his right hand, my left hand - then told us to clean the kitchen. It was difficult, but we were laughing about it by the time everything was clean." - no1ofcconsequencedied.

We've got to say this next one was the sweetest:

"When my kids would fight and it got ugly, I would send them to their shared room for an hour and tell them they can't come out until they came up with a really good secret handshake. They would immediately forget they were mad at each other and start working on the handshake. And I would hear them laughing their heads off while they did it. They would come out an hour later and show me this super-long fun handshake, synchronized to the minute. I would congratulate them for their hard work, and then they would go back to playing. It still brings a smile to my face." - dianachick.
