Nothing can get between grannies and their favourite TV shows...
It's a well-known fact that most grannies enjoy watching their favourite TV shows. Some call them Telenovelas, but in South Africa, it's all about the drama of the world of Zee and Star Life.
These channels feature Bollywood entertainment and are known for drawing audiences into their addictive storylines. While some of the storylines are over-the-top and extreme, like any good soapie, the entertainment gives audiences something to enjoy in their downtime and keeps them coming back for more drama.
You might even compare it to 'Netflix and chill' sessions.
As time has evolved, African media giant DStv has introduced several channels tailored to suit the diverse communities in South Africa. For the younger generation, we saw it with dubbed SpongeBob episodes and for the Gogos there's Zee Zonke.
A TikTok video showed just how invested the elderly folk can get when watching their favourite daytime shows. Sometimes, it extends to the point of physically interacting with the television.
This Gogo was so invested in the story that she ended up swearing at the TV, aiming her frustration at the characters for making the wrong choices. Something we can all relate to. Who hasn't shouted in frustration at the characters in their favourite soap or movie before?
This is all in an attempt to get them to do what you think they should do or to question their decisions.
The person sharing the video, who we assume is the granddaughter, joked that they would be blocking the Zee Zonke channel because of Gogo's antics in the video.
However, people in the comments section came to granny's defence, with one user saying: "Don't block the channel...Gogo is old...let her watch whatever she likes. She will not be there forever. These are the days for her to sit and relax. Let it be so."
