The matric dance season always intrigues us as matriculants push the norm with inventive ideas to make a statement.

Some have created a stir with their outrageously planned entrances, from making a grand entrance in an ambulance to a prison-break entrance. We can confidently say that there isn't a lack of imagination in their execution.

This time, we saw something old-school and pretty special from a young man and his friends who attend Glenwood High School in Durban.

The video had all the feels of a classic moment – a boy asking his crush to the prom, or in this case, the matric dance. It was simple yet sweet and evoked all the feelings of young love.

However, not everyone found the video sweet. Some questioned whether they were too young for this, and another asked if this young lady's father knew about the grand gesture.

But for the most part, others celebrated the sweet moment and appreciated this young man's efforts to make it special. Seeing how his friends collaborated to help him carry out his big ask was also amazing.

  • "Young love is sweet."
  • "Most precious moment."
  • "Take me back to 2004! I'm loving the new generation, so much effort."
  • "Love it. Well played, young man."
  • "Aw, this is beautiful!"
  • "Enjoy your matric dance, young man."
