Even though we have heard from some experts that it is now safe to consume chicken eggs, we thought it would be informative for us to learn about some egg substitutes.

After all, the price is not set in stone and although eggs are a firm favourite amongst many, there are many, many substitutes to eggs that can be just as wholesome.

As the Hindus observe Navaratri, many are looking for a nice snack that is egg free, so, we found some great alternatives to eggs.

If you are thinking about baking, then don't fear if your favourite recipe has eggs in it.

Great fruit substitutes that help when baking include smashed bananas and apple sauce. You could also use buttermilk, which is used in baking quite often.

"Ripe bananas and apple sauce both work as a vegan egg substitute, helping bind, adding moisture, and giving density to baked goods." (MSN)

No buttermilk? No problem, just take a cup of milk and add a tablespoon of vinegar, this can be altered to the desired quantity depending on the recipe of course.

Another great alternative when baking is chickpea flour, also referred to as gram flour.

"Chickpea flour: High in protein, chickpea flour works as both a binding and raising agent and is one of the best natural egg replacements in baked goods, with a surprisingly similar texture and flavour to eggs." (MSN)

You could also make an egg-free omelette with chickpea flour and water, mix to make the desired consistency and then add chopped chilli, coriander, spring onion, yellow onion, tomato, salt, and some chilli powder.

You wouldn't think so, but you can also use linseed and chia seeds. These seeds are known for their healthy fats and with their high nutrition comes a punch of antioxidants which are great vegan egg substitutes when ground or soaked.

And you can also use Aquafaba, which is the slimy-looking water that you will find in a can of chickpeas. You wouldn't think so but when you beat this liquid they end up looking like meringue.
