Epic tour wrap up on Florida Road!
Darren, Natarah Nadesan, Gabriel Sithole and producer Gorgeous George together with a 20-strong support team kicked off The East Coast Radio Breakfast Tour on 18 July
In a province-wide connect-the-dots-type road trip, the team visited Umlazi, Port Shepstone, Nottingham Road, Newcastle, Pietermaritzburg, Richards Bay and Eshowe before hanging up their adventure boots in Florida Road.
Scores of people came down to Spiga d'Oro to enjoy a muffin and a cuppa on the team, to watch the broadcast in action and to take pics before heading off to work or school.
Travis Burke would’ve been a hero when he got to school at Glenwood Prep this morning. The 11-year-old won R4000 after nailing the kids' edition of The Grand Challenge!
EThekwini Mayor, James Nxumalo, dropped in on the team to chat about the R100-million plans to revitalise Durban’s inner city and the promenade; the steps being taken to establish Durban as a green city; and answered questions from listeners relating to service delivery.
He also revealed that when he does have a bit of time on his hands, he listens to music, watches TV and reads.
Gray Braatvedt, manager of the Florida Road UIP (Urban Improvement Precinct) briefed Darren and Natarah about the developments in the precinct while Patrick Coetzee explained the story behind and the meaning of the Legacy Lock Fence on Florida Rd.
Looking back on his experience over the past more-than-a-week, Darren says:
“I’m going to miss listeners visiting us to say hello and just coming and chilling with us; I’m already missing all the amazing places we visited; I’m going to miss our tour bus; I’m going to miss people hooting at us and I’m going to miss everything about this phenomenal experience.
