The yellow you-can-see-it-from-a-kay away East Coast Radio Breakfast Tour bus rolled into Zululand yesterday afternoon.

First up for the team: a history and cultural lesson.

It was cold but that quickly changed when the team were welcomed to Shakaland with a glass of Zulu rum!

There they were treated to an authentic cultural experience, complete with Zulu dancing, beer tasting and spearthrowing.

Before bed, they shared a traditional Zulu meal with intrepid traveller, and founder of Shakaland, Kingsley Holgate.

This morning, Darren, Natarah Nadesan, Gabriel Sithole and producer Gorgeous George were up before the crack of dawn to prep for their broadcast from Fort Nongqayi Museum.

Local residents, friends and the curious came in to say hi and meet them team during the 6am to 9am broadcast. Scores of school children were there too, giving them a warm eShowe welcome.

Kingsley Holgate (pictured, above) popped in again, and Johannes Diemont (pictured below), curator of the museum at Fort Nongqayi, talked Darren and Natarah through the significance of the Fort and regaled them with fascinating stories of history and adventure. Sonja Kruse joined them too. Known as “The Ubuntu Girl”, Sonya embarked on a fantastic journey around the country to see if Ubuntu actually exists.

There was no shortage of talent, grit and determination as two local schools took on each other in a war cry challenge. Pupils from John Wesley School (the red team) and the Holy Childhood Convent School (the blue team) went head-to-head in a contest facilitated by Darren and the team.

Both were outstanding. But there can be only one winner. Or can there? In this battle of the war cry, Darren pronounced both teams victorious! The red team for their groovy dance moves and the blue team for their high energy performance.

After a whirlwind, epic tour that saw Darren, Natarah and the rest of the team travelling across the province, The East Coast Radio Breakfast Tour will wrap up in Florida Road, Durban, tomorrow!
