Zuma resignation letter submitted to National Assembly Speaker
Updated | By Shaun Ryan
Jacob Zuma has formally submitted his letter of resignation to National Assembly Speaker, Baleka Mbete.
Zuma announced last night that he was stepping down as president with immediate effect after being recalled by the ANC.
Parliament says Mbete has also been informed that Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng is available to preside over the National Assembly's election of a new president.

That session is expected to get underway at 2pm.
The election will be held instead of the EFF's scheduled Motion of No Confidence in the president.
The 2018 State of the Nation Address will now take place at 7pm tomorrow evening.
SONA will be debated on Monday, with the reply given on Tuesday.
The national budget will be tabled on Wednesday afternoon.
The ANC recalled Zuma from office earlier this week, saying it wanted Cyril Ramaphosa to serve as Head of State after winning the presidential race at the ruling party's National Elective Conference in Johannesburg in December last year.
