Zolile Khumalo murder accused abandons bail application

The man accused of murdering 21-year-old Mangosuthu University of Technology student, Zolile Khumalo has abandoned his bid for bail.

23-year-old Thabani Mzolo made his fourth appearance in the Durban Magistrate's Court this morning.

Mzolo allegedly shot Khumalo at her off-campus residence in the Durban CBD in May.

There was a sigh of relief inside court when Mzolo's attorney, Charl Claasens told Magistrate Ahmed Motala that his client had decided to abandon his bid for freedom.

The bail application was meant to get underway today.

The State then said that there was evidence still outstanding in the case - including DNA, post mortem results and a photo album containing images from the scene.

Motala adjourned the case until the end of August for further investigation.

Mzolo will remain in custody at Westville Prison. His next appearance will be over an audio visual link up.
