Woman goes to extreme lengths to smuggle drugs
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
A woman has been caught after going to extreme lengths while allegedly trying to smuggle drugs into Westville Prison, outside Durban.

The woman had gone to visit a prisoner at the facility on Sunday and was found with over 200 capsules containing what is believed to be heroin.
The Department of Correctional Services said in a statement that the drugs had been hidden inside her underwear, but sources close knowledge of the case suggest the capsules had actually been hidden inside the woman's private parts.

Justice and Correctional Services says authorities are clamping down on smugglers.
The department's Chrispin Phiri says the woman was detained and handed over to police.
"We hope that the South Africa
Polices Services will be able to unpack the value chain of how these drugs end
up in our facilitates and what markets they entertain,” he said.

“Part of the issue in our facilities is not necessarily the official themselves, but, it’s actually members of the public destabilising the rehabilitation process by actually being part of the problem [by] smuggling contraband such as drugs into our facilities, " says Phiri.
The suspect appeared in court on Monday.
