Woman, girl in critical condition after separate Durban incidents

An 11-year-old girl who was knocked and a woman who was shot in separate incidents in Durban are in stable but critical conditions after undergoing surgery last night.

In the first incident, a woman shot multiple times and left on the M7 Freeway near Main Road in Northdene on Wednesday. 


Rescue Care spokesperson, Garrith Jamieson says they found the woman lying on the side of the highway in critical condition.

Jamieson says they worked to stabilise the woman who had sustained injuries to her upper body and arms.


"Advanced Life Support Paramedics worked to stabilise her on the scene before rushing her through to the Chief Albert Luthuli Nkosi Hospital where a trauma team were standing by for Paramedics. The circumstances around the shooting is unknown," he said. 


In another incident, an 11-year-old girl was knocked whilst crossing Stanley Copley Drive in Sydenham yesterday afternoon.

Jamieson says when paramedics arrived, they found the child the severely injured on the roadway.


"Due to the severity of the child’s multiple injuries the patients was placed on a manual ventilator on the scene before being rushed to the Chief Albert Luthuli Hospital where a trauma team was awaiting Paramedics arrival."


"The child was then handed over to the Specialist doctors. At this stage, the events leading up to the crash is unknown," he said. 


Police are investigating both incidents.
