Woman in Clairwood boys murder case denied bail
Updated | By Bernadette Wolhuter
The woman accused of masterminding the murder of best friends, Luyanda Msomi and Njabulo Mankayi last year, has been denied bail.
After abandoning bail following her arrest in November, Amahle Maliwa made a new application in the Durban Magistrate’s Court today and cited a loss of income and that she supports seven children as “exceptional circumstances”.
Magistrate Mohamed Motala, however, says her release is not in the interest of justice and that the public outrage over the case necessitates a proper trial to be conducted.
Luyanda’s father, Thembinkosi Maliti, was at court.
He says he is still trying to come to terms with the loss and will fight for justice for his son.
"I'm still missing my son a lot. It's a big pain for me and will take very long. I want the justice system to take its course, the killing of children and women will carry on if [nothing's done]," Maliti said.
