Four women accused of attempted murder and conspiracy to murder have appeared in the Verulam Magistrate's Court.

They are accused of trying to suffocate an elderly man at his Phoenix home on Wednesday.
It's alleged the women, among them the 62-year-old man's wife and their domestic worker, placed a plastic bag over his head.

He managed to press the panic button and alerted a neighbour who rushed to help him.
The four women didn't show any emotion as they stood in the dock on Friday for what was a brief appearance.
Three of the accused Kwanele Mbele, Nomfundisi Ntape and Zandile Mvelu told the Magistrate that they would be opting for legal aid.
